Barcamp Wa 2016 is a free networking forum bringing people together for learning, sharing, networking and mentoring in the Upper West region. It takes place on February 27 in Wa at InService Training Center. The theme for this year is Building a Sustainable Future Learning from the Past. It will be an event for many people who live and are interested in Wa to learn, share and network with. Rukaya Sukah, Barcamp Wa lead, said “The first Barcamp in Wa was awesome and I know that Barcamp Wa 2016 would be even more awesome!”.


The Barcamp will feature multiple user-generated breakout sessions about business, social entrepreneurship, technology and development, alongside topics relevant to the Upper West Region and beyond. There will be a speed mentoring session where mentors will give insights and answers to questions from attendees. Some of the confirmed resource personnel include Martin Dery (Pronet North), Hamida Danwaana (Spicy Foodies), Lawyer Shakur (Renowned lawyer), Richard Quainoo (Tigo Data Specialist), Hassan Hamadu (NHIS IT), Braimah Samadu (FLIM Regional Manager), Phoebe Bala (District Health Director), Musah Empampo (UDS Lecturer), Kala Gaston (Kara Diagnostics), Freeman Kanton (CARO Director), Anthony Kubee (Bank Branch Manager), James Sohimwininye (Bank Zonal Manager), Kennedy Alatinga (Lecturer), Alhassan Ibrahim (Morning Show Host), etc.


This Barcamp hopes to assemble stakeholders in Wa to network, build a supportive enterprising community and partner to build together. The GhanaThink Foundation has successfully organized 55 BarCamps in Ghana as part of its Barcamp Ghana program since 2008. Barcamp Ghana is building a network of changemakers, doers and entrepreneurs. BarCamp Wa 2016 will be the second of its kind and it will showcase of entrepreneurs and innovators in the Upper West region. Kofi Yeboah of the Barcamp Ghana team, adds “I look forward to an engaging forum where young people will understand the need to use their past experiences as a bridge to a sustainable future they dream to create”.
